With "Distant Shore," Harry Kappen unveils one of the most meaningful tracks from After the Crossing, his new album recorded after relocating from the Netherlands to Mexico.
The song was inspired by the countless stories of refugees crossing seas and borders under extreme conditions in search of a better life. Through his own move, Harry became aware of the privilege of being able to choose a new destination—something very different from the reality faced by those forced to leave their homes because of war, poverty, or desperation. Distant Shore is a tribute to their courage, resilience, and determination.
Musically, the track draws inspiration from the distinctive sound of the mellotron and classics such as David Bowie's Space Oddity, while also serving as a homage to one of the artists who has had the greatest influence on Harry's musical journey.
After the Crossing brings together ten deeply personal songs, all written, performed, and produced by Harry himself. The album reflects change, travel, new beginnings, and the experiences that have shaped his life.
