Heartbreak doesn't always sound the way we expect. Sometimes, even when a relationship leaves us feeling lonely, the music that comes out of it makes us want to get up and move. Martin Yates explores that contrast in “Through It All,” the second single from his upcoming EP, bringing together the pain of a relationship falling apart and the infectious energy of classic soul.
Drawing inspiration from Motown and 1960s soul, alongside more contemporary artists such as Amy Winehouse, Plan B, and Duffy, Yates builds a sound that feels rooted in the past without being stuck there. “Through It All” pairs its themes of heartbreak and loneliness with a foot-stomping rhythm, creating a song that carries emotional weight while remaining lively and immediate.
