The collaboration itself happened almost by accident. Melinda originally began writing the song after receiving a prompt from her songwriting group and was already recording it when JT stopped by the studio. He spontaneously wrote and recorded what became the chorus, completing the song in a way that transformed the original idea into a duet.

That sense of spontaneity fits the song's message. “Too Late” is ultimately about not postponing life, and its creation came from two artists recognizing an unexpected moment and choosing to follow it.

Melinda Joy brings a diverse background to the collaboration. A multi-award-winning musician, author, filmmaker, singer-songwriter, and bass player, she combines poetic lyrics with melodic and bass-driven arrangements influenced by different genres. Based between Austin, Texas, and Mexico, her music has been described as “Southern Gothic,” with a sound that can be soulful, jazzy, and lush.
