“Distant Ground” arrives as the debut single from Reinhout’s upcoming album What Remains, introducing a project shaped by memory, change, and the traces people and places leave behind. The track captures the feeling of moving forward while still being connected to what came before, using slow melodic fragments, subtle rhythms, and warm organic textures to build its atmosphere.

Rather than following a traditional song structure, Reinhout lets the track develop gradually, leaving room for small details and changes along the way. Resampled and processed analogue synths carry the listener through an atmospheric soundscape that feels intimate without losing its sense of space. There are no dramatic turns or obvious climaxes; the track simply keeps moving, allowing its mood to unfold naturally.

The single also introduces the idea behind What Remains, an album concerned with distance, transition, and the things that stay with us as life changes. It is less about looking back than about understanding how certain memories continue to exist in the present, even after the people, places, or moments connected to them have changed.

Based in Oslo, Reinhout is the more introspective side of producer Stijn Reinhout Firmin Viaene, who also makes music as Firmin. Where Firmin leans into sun-drenched soundscapes and the warmth of summer, Reinhout explores something quieter and more atmospheric, drawing from the reflective mood of autumn.

His music takes inspiration from electronic artists such as Hior Chronik, Christian Löffler, Bonobo, and Kiasmos, while developing a sound of its own between listening music and the dance floor. Much of that work has taken shape in his home studio, where he has explored the emotional possibilities of electronic music. With live performances planned later this year alongside the release of What Remains, Reinhout is beginning a new chapter in his project.
