Shaven Primates

born in portugal

Based in Oxford, UK, Shaven Primates have been developing their sound since 2017, combining elements of dark-wave, art rock, and proto/post-punk. The four-piece draws from a wide range of influences, including The Velvet Underground, Kate Bush, Tool, The Prodigy, The Clash, Bowie, Porcupine Tree, and Pink Floyd.

With their new EP, the band takes their sound in a heavier direction. The music becomes grittier, with a stronger focus on hard rock and punk, while still incorporating elements of modern art rock.

The main theme of the EP is anxiety and control, giving the band a new subject to explore through their music.

Shaven Primates

It follows the different themes explored across their previous releases. Chasing The Dragon focused on desire, Birds Aren’t Real explored alternative thinking, and Child Of Dirt dealt with childhood trauma and addiction. This time, Shaven Primates turn their attention toward anxiety, control, and the relationship between the two.

The band's sound is built around grinding basslines, powerful guitars, synths, heavy drums, and vocals that move between melodic passages and more aggressive performances.

The new EP keeps the identity that Shaven Primates have developed over the years while allowing the band to explore a heavier and more direct side of their music.

Rather than sticking to one formula, the release represents another step in their musical journey — a new collection of songs shaped by their influences, their experiences, and their constant desire to push their sound further.
