Through patient experimentation, the arrangement gradually expanded into layers of synth patterns, bass, conga percussion, and atmospheric details that give the track its distinctive character.
One of its most unusual elements is the sound of the ocean. Rather than relying entirely on a conventional recording, Pepijn created the effect by moving brushes slowly in circles across a snare, producing a subtle texture that evokes waves and reinforces the song’s seaside setting.

Suzy Pine is the result of a creative reunion between Suzanne, a singer-songwriter and music teacher with more than two decades of experience, and Pepijn, a guitarist, composer, and sound designer. For years, Suzanne wrote songs at home, allowing them to accumulate around her piano before finally deciding to bring them into the world.
That decision led her back to Pepijn, an old study friend who was working from his Rotterdam studio. Together, they began an independent exploration of sound, developing a musical language built around experimentation and detailed production.
The pair initially released music as Lena & van Dorst, with singles including “Cool Inside” and “Astray,” before adopting the name Suzy Pine as their sound continued to evolve.
Their influences range from Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Sting, and Pink Floyd to Suzanne’s experience as a backing vocalist with the brasilectro band Electro Côco. Those influences can be felt in the project's sophisticated arrangements, harmonized melodies, clear basslines, percussion, and layered synth textures.
